Airport Transportation to Princeton University and the Town of Princeton

Most people who need airport transportation to Princeton are flying in for something specific: a first-year move-in, a campus visit with a high school senior, Reunions in late May, a lecture or a meeting on campus. Princeton University, founded in 1746 and one of the oldest universities in the country, sits about an hour’s drive from both Newark and Philadelphia, and farther from JFK and LaGuardia. We drive all four routes, plus the short run from the train at Princeton Junction, and we plan each one around where on campus or in town you actually need to be.

Newark or Philadelphia? Comparing Drive Times to Princeton

From Newark Liberty, the drive usually takes 50 to 60 minutes, and our Newark Airport to Princeton car service is the route we run most often for families and visitors. Philadelphia International is a good choice when the flight there is direct or cheaper, especially from the South or the West: the drive is about the same length, and it avoids the New Jersey Turnpike traffic around Newark. For late-night arrivals, both airports work well. These are the drive times our dispatch plans with:

To Princeton from Normal traffic Rush hour or busy weekends
Newark Airport (EWR) 50 to 60 min 70 to 90 min
Philadelphia Airport (PHL) 55 to 65 min 75 to 90 min
JFK Airport 1 h 30 min to 1 h 45 min 2 h 15 min to 2 h 45 min
LaGuardia Airport (LGA) 1 h 35 min to 1 h 50 min 2 h 15 min to 2 h 45 min
Princeton Junction station 10 to 15 min 15 to 25 min, mostly on Route 1 and Alexander Road

The rides from JFK and LaGuardia are the longest of the four, up to 2 hours 45 minutes in heavy traffic, so plan any campus appointment with that range in mind. Airline flights are tracked, so the pickup moves with the actual landing time. After you land, the chauffeur waits up to 60 minutes at no charge for a domestic flight and up to 90 minutes for an international one, which leaves time for baggage claim and, from abroad, passport control.

One traveler described how the chauffeur kept in touch from the moment she landed:

“The driver, Mahbub Jamil, texted me right away after landing and stayed in touch until I made a necessary stop and then retrieved my luggage. He gave me the door number at which I should wait and arrived soon after.” (June J., Google review)

Where the Car Can Stop on Campus, on Nassau Street and at the Nassau Inn

Most drop-offs are at the residential colleges, at the Nassau Inn on Palmer Square and along Nassau Street across from the main gates, and many parents stay at the other hotels in and around town. Each spot works a little differently:

  • Residential colleges: university rules limit where cars can drive on campus, so outside move-in days we stop on the nearest road the university allows, such as Elm Drive for the southern colleges, and the student walks the last part.
  • Nassau Street: there is almost nowhere to wait, so the chauffeur parks nearby and pulls up when you text that you are ready.
  • Nassau Inn: the car stops at the front entrance on Palmer Square.

The most useful thing a first-time visitor can do is send us the name of the residential college or building, not just Princeton University, and keep a phone on. A few minutes before arrival, the chauffeur texts the exact meeting spot.

Arriving by Train at Princeton Junction

At Princeton Junction, the chauffeur waits in the pickup area by the station and texts you the car’s description before your train pulls in. Tell us whether you are coming from New York or from Trenton, because the station has platforms and parking lots on both sides of the tracks. Trains are not tracked automatically, so if yours is late or you miss it, a quick call or text to dispatch is enough to move the chauffeur’s time. From the station to campus is usually 10 to 15 minutes.

Move-In Weekend, Reunions and Commencement: Book Early and Pack for the Car

Move-in weekend, Reunions and Commencement are among our busiest days in the Princeton area. Reunions and Commencement fall close together at the end of May, and many families fly in at the same time, so please book at least three to four weeks ahead for those dates. Because campus roads close or fill up, we agree on a meeting point by text before you arrive.

Luggage decides the vehicle. An SUV holds six people with normal bags, but with a student’s move-in load it realistically fits the student plus two or three family members. For a full move-in, we suggest a passenger van that seats up to 13, or 10 with luggage, or two cars. A typical case: a family of four flying into Newark with two large suitcases and several boxes rode in a passenger van, was dropped as close to the residential college as the move-in rules allowed, and the parents were driven back to Newark the next afternoon.

Heavy bags are part of the job, as one longtime client noted after a JFK pickup:

“Met us inside JFK meeting hall with a big smile. Carried our heavy suitcases to the parking lot.Drove us to our home in record time. Got the suitcases inside home.” (Parimal B., Google review)

Parents sending a student off can also count on who is behind the wheel. Every chauffeur goes through a background check and a previous-employer check before hiring, and all vehicles are GPS-tracked and have cameras. Our passenger safety standards explain the rest.

Groups for Reunions, College Tours, Games and McCarter Theatre

For Princeton University transportation in groups, the two most common requests are alumni classes during Reunions and high school groups on college tours, usually in a Mercedes Sprinter or a mini bus. Smaller groups ride to shows at McCarter Theatre Center and to games at Princeton Stadium or Jadwin Gymnasium from time to time, mostly in Sprinters and SUVs, and class visits to the Princeton University Art Museum are occasional. The vehicles we use for Princeton trips:

School trips are planned through our transportation for school and college groups, and larger parties can book a charter bus for group travel. If you are attending a conference in Plainsboro rather than coming to campus, the details are on our page for rides to the Princeton Marriott at Forrestal.

Late Arrivals, Dorm Pickups, Car Seats and Pets: Princeton Travel Questions

My flight lands after midnight. Is there a surcharge?

Yes. Pickups between midnight and 4:59 a.m. carry a $25* surcharge plus gratuity. Both Newark and Philadelphia work well for late-night arrivals.

How long will the chauffeur wait at a dorm or hotel for the ride back to the airport?

For pickups that are not at an airport, the first 15 minutes of waiting are free. After that, waiting is billed by the minute, so it helps to have bags packed and be at the agreed spot on time.

Can you bring a car seat for a younger sibling?

Yes. Child seats cost $15* each when requested in advance, and the parent installs the seat.

*Surcharge and child seat price confirmed by Air Brook in September 2026 and subject to change.

Can the family dog come along on move-in day?

Pets can ride in a crate or carrier, so mention the pet when you book. Service animals ride free.
