School and College Transportation in New Jersey
Teachers, coaches, activity directors, and college event offices come to Air Brook when a whole group has to travel together and be back on schedule: a class heading to a museum, a team leaving for an away game, a club on its way to a competition, a prom night, or a wave of students flying home for break. Our school transportation services in NJ are built for exactly these trips and events, with a professional chauffeur and a vehicle sized to the roster, from a 13-passenger van to a 55-passenger motorcoach.
Most of the groups we drive are high school clubs, teams, and bands, college athletic teams and student organizations, and private schools. The planning starts with a written trip plan and ends when the last student is dropped off.
What the School and Our Dispatch Agree On Before Students Board
When the riders are under 18, nothing is left to be worked out on the day. Before the trip, the school and our dispatch confirm in writing:
- the pickup and drop-off points and times, plus every stop along the way
- the name and cell number of the adult in charge of the group
- the number of students traveling
The chauffeur receives the adult’s cell number and the adult receives the chauffeur’s, so the two can reach each other directly if a museum visit runs long or a game goes into overtime. Students agree to our vehicle rules before they ride: seat belts on, no alcohol, no smoking or vaping, and no drugs.
Behind the wheel, every chauffeur has passed a background check and a check with previous employers before being hired. Every vehicle is GPS-tracked and fitted with cameras.
A client who traveled with her family and a group of children wrote about how carefully her driver handled the whole crew:
“Great driver, responsible, carefully driving me and my family and the whole crew of kids. We had such a good time.” (Donjeta S., Google review)
Day Trips, Competitions and Away Games Our Chauffeurs Drive Most
A school day trip is built around the bell schedule. In one typical trip, a high school science club of about 30 students and chaperones rode a 37-seat mini bus to Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, leaving after first period and returning before dismissal. When a class needs a field trip bus, we start from the headcount including teachers, the destination address and the hours the school day allows, and recommend the vehicle from there.
Much of our college transportation in NJ is for athletic teams and student organizations, and those trips tend to run longer. A college club of 12, for example, took a Mercedes Sprinter to a weekend competition on another campus, and the chauffeur stayed with the group for the day.
The Sprinter seats 14, and one client who took the 14-passenger van into New York City summed up the ride this way:
“We took a 14 passenger van to NYC. Driver was friendly, on time and the van was clean, new and roomy!” (Alesia L., Google review)
Destinations change with the school year, but some stay on the calendar. We still drive school groups to Liberty Science Center, to the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, and to campus visits and events at Princeton University and Rutgers University. When a team, band, or grade needs one large bus for a full day, the trip can also be booked as a chartered bus with a driver.
Vehicles for Classes, Teams and Clubs, With Minimum Hours and Cancellation Notice
Count every rider when you choose a vehicle: students plus teachers, coaches and chaperones. School trips are priced individually in a written quote, and these are the minimum booking times and the notice needed to cancel without charge:
| Vehicle | Riders | Minimum booking | Free cancellation notice | Typical school use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Passenger van | Up to 13 | 5 hours | 48 hours | Small classes, airport groups with bags |
| Mercedes Sprinter | Up to 14 | 5 hours | 7 days | Club competitions, prom groups, faculty |
| 23-passenger mini bus | Up to 23 | 5 hours | 35 days | Teams with equipment, clubs |
| 37-passenger mini bus | Up to 37 | 6 hours | 35 days | Larger teams, science and music trips |
| 55-passenger motorcoach | Up to 55 | 6 hours | 35 days | Full grades, band and choir trips |
Tolls and parking are added to the quoted price, and a gratuity of at least 15% is added to every reservation.
Prom and Graduation Nights With a Schedule Parents Approve
For proms and graduations, either a parent or the school books the ride, and the whole evening is agreed in writing before the night: the pickup times, any stops, the venue, and the return home. If the school sets its own rules for prom transportation, those rules come first, and the plan we confirm follows them.
The venues we drive to most for proms are banquet halls in Bergen and Passaic Counties. The Venetian in Garfield is a regular stop, both on prom nights and for school banquets.
Getting Students to Newark, JFK, and LaGuardia Around the Academic Calendar
Student airport transportation follows the semester. Our heaviest weeks are move-in and move-out, the days before Thanksgiving and winter break, and the end of the spring semester, when we drive many students between campus and the airports. The campuses we pick up from most often for these rides are Princeton, Rutgers in New Brunswick, Felician, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Ramapo College.
When several students share the same flight window, a school office or a team can book a van, a Sprinter, or a mini bus instead of separate cars. International students arriving together for orientation are a common example: the group lands, collects its bags, and rides to campus in one vehicle. Every commercial flight is tracked, and after landing, the chauffeur waits up to 60 minutes for a domestic flight and up to 90 minutes for an international one at no extra charge. The same planning applies to all of our airport rides across New Jersey, including pickups at Newark Liberty.
For parents, the late flight is what matters most. One mother wrote about the night her daughter’s flight into Newark ran very late:
“My daughter’s flight into Newark was very delayed and they made sure to be there right on time and got her home safely.” (Rachel Z., Google review)
Parents, students, and schools are among the clients behind our 4.9-star average on Google, from more than 870 reviews.
Written Quotes, District Paperwork and Certificates of Insurance
Schools and colleges book by phone or email, and dispatch replies with a written quote for the trip. If your district has its own paperwork requirements, send them with the quote request, and we will tell you how we can work with them.
Many schools and venues ask for a certificate of insurance before a trip. Send the request by email with the certificate holder’s exact name and address and the trip date. Our coverage includes auto liability of $10,000,000 as a combined single limit ($5,000,000 primary plus $5,000,000 excess), along with general liability, employment practices liability, cyber insurance, and workers’ compensation as required by the state. The full breakdown is part of our published safety and duty of care standards.

Booking Buses for Spring Trips, Proms and Graduations
May and June are our busiest months for groups, so book buses as soon as your date is set, even if the final headcount comes later. A quote request for school transportation services in NJ moves fastest when it includes:
- the school or college name and a contact person with a cell number
- the date, the departure address, the destination, and the times
- the number of students and adults, and whether the students are under 18
- equipment, instruments, or luggage the group is bringing
- any forms your district or college requires
Send the details to dispatch at (800) 800-1990 or info@airbrook.com, or through our online quote request form, and we will reply with a written quote for the trip.
Daily Routes, Chaperones, Rule Breaks and Payment: What Schools Ask Us
Can Air Brook run a daily route to and from school?
No. We do not run daily school bus routes with the same pickup every school day. Our school and college service covers trips and events only: field trips, teams, clubs, campus events, proms, graduations, and student airport runs.
Does an adult have to ride with the students?
Not in a sedan or SUV. For a bus, we ask for the name and cell number of an adult contact, and if the school requires a chaperone on board, the school’s rule applies.
What happens if a student breaks the vehicle rules?
The chauffeur ends the ride and calls the parent contact. That is why the rules are shared with the school or parent in advance, so every student knows them before the trip starts.
How can a school or college pay for a trip?
By card: American Express, Discover, Mastercard, or Visa. An institution can also ask to open an account with us, which we approve case by case.
How late can a single student’s sedan ride be canceled?
Sedans and SUVs can be canceled by phone up to 2 hours before the pickup time without charge. Call dispatch rather than emailing, so the change is confirmed right away.
