Car Service from JFK to Newark Airport

Landing at JFK is only half the connection. The bigger question is whether you’ll make your flight from Newark. Between customs, baggage claim, traffic across New York City, and airline check-in deadlines, this is the region’s longest airport transfer. With our car service from JFK to Newark Airport, we plan the route before you leave the terminal, with your pickup location, destination terminal, and route confirmed in advance.

Crossing a Whole Region, Not Just a City

Getting from JFK to Newark means leaving southeastern Queens, cutting through Brooklyn and Staten Island, and ending in New Jersey. The essentials:

  • Distance: roughly 30 to 36 miles by road, farther than any other New York-area airport pairing.
  • Usual route: the Belt Parkway to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, across Staten Island on I-278, over the Goethals Bridge, then the New Jersey Turnpike toward Newark. When the Goethals stacks up, often 4 to 7 PM on weekdays, the Bayonne Bridge is the usual fallback: one extra mile that skips the worst of that queue.
  • Tolls: the Staten Island route carries a Verrazano-Narrows Bridge charge and New Jersey Turnpike tolls. The Goethals Bridge does not collect in the JFK-to-Newark direction. Confirm which tolls and fees are included in your quoted rate.
  • Road time: often 60 to 90 minutes. Unusually clear roads run faster; major congestion pushes it well beyond.

Leaving Enough Time Between Flights

A single road estimate rarely tells you enough because this is not a protected connection within a single airport. Between flights you generally:

  • deplane and reach the pickup point;
  • collect any checked baggage;
  • clear immigration and customs if you flew in internationally;
  • cross the region by road;
  • re-check baggage, pass security, and reach your Newark gate.

Separate tickets often carry little protection if a delay makes you miss the second flight, so most travelers leave a wide margin here. We time your pickup around both flights, though the realistic cushion tends to depend on where you flew in from and the departure airline’s cutoff. Our JFK to EWR car service aims to leave room rather than rely on a clean run.

Traffic Is the Real Variable

A few pinch points shape this route more than the mileage does. The Staten Island Expressway is one of the city’s least forgiving stretches; the Verrazzano approach slows after 4 PM; and Turnpike exits 13A to 14 near Newark back up during peaks. A midday run of 45 to 55 minutes can stretch to 60 to 90 minutes through the 7 to 10 AM and 3 to 7 PM peaks, and an incident or storm can go past that.

A private transfer leans on live judgment here: the chauffeur takes the most practical route rather than the original estimate. No route guarantees a connection once congestion or a late inbound flight has used up your spare time, but reading the road as it changes removes avoidable delays.

How the Pickup Works at JFK

Meeting your chauffeur differs by terminal, and JFK’s redevelopment keeps changing for-hire pickup points, with some terminals using remote arrangements. So the process depends on which terminal you land in, and we send the applicable curbside, remote-lot, AirTrain, or meet-and-greet directions before you land.

Traveling the Other Direction, Too

Many passengers arrange both halves of the journey. Our car service from EWR to JFK meets you at Newark and delivers you to your JFK terminal. The return is not a mirror image: heading east, the Goethals Bridge does collect a toll, and Newark terminal access, Turnpike conditions, and JFK construction shape the run. Both directions can be arranged in one reservation, with each transfer’s flight, rate, and pickup instructions confirmed separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the weekend ride any easier than a weekday one?

Usually, yes. The 7 to 10 AM and 3 to 7 PM commuter peaks that slow the Staten Island Expressway ease off on Saturdays and Sundays, so a weekend run tends to sit closer to the lower end of the range. Sunday evenings and any date with a stadium or arena crowd near the Turnpike are the exceptions worth flagging when you book.

What is the alternative if the Verrazzano or Goethals is blocked?

The Manhattan crossings become the fallback. Instead of the southern path over Staten Island, the drive can run through Brooklyn and the Holland or Lincoln Tunnel into New Jersey.

Is the ride the same length in both directions?

Not quite. The mileage matches, but the two directions load differently by time of day: the Staten Island Expressway peaks eastbound toward Brooklyn in the morning and westbound toward Staten Island in the late afternoon. So a JFK-to-Newark run and a Newark-to-JFK run at the same clock time can encounter congestion at different points, which is why we plan each leg against its own direction rather than assuming they mirror each other.
