New Jersey has more than 60 wineries across the state, and the event calendar that grows around them each year has become a destination in itself. From beachfront tastings on the Shore to indoor expos at architectural landmarks, the range covers every kind of gathering a wine enthusiast would want to attend. Each event below covers a different part of the state and a different kind of experience.
The state’s Wine Trail program connects coastal estates, rural farm wineries, and small-town tasting rooms into a network that most out-of-state visitors don’t expect. National recognition has followed. Saddlehill Winery recently earned a Best of Class award at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, one of the most competitive showcases in American winemaking. The Garden State produces serious bottles alongside the casual outdoor festivals, and the seasonal calendar gives visitors a structured way to explore both.
Getting between venues across the state is part of the planning. Most Shore events require driving from town to town, and the festival grounds aren’t in the same geographic area. Groups covering multiple stops in a day often arrange a chauffeur for the vineyard hopping rather than rotating a designated driver through the itinerary.
Held at Veterans Island in Cherry Hill, this two-day outdoor gathering closes out the summer season along the Delaware River. Local and regional wineries pour alongside food vendors and live music. The island setting keeps the footprint compact, and the atmosphere relaxed: more of a summer sendoff than a formal tasting event, which makes it a good starting point for first-timers.
The Shore’s most distinctive entry on the calendar. Seaside Heights puts wine pours directly on the beach, which sounds like a novelty and turns out to be a genuinely enjoyable way to taste. The setting draws a different crowd than the inland harvest festivals. Less focused on production conversation, more focused on the combination of salt air and a good glass of rosé. Bring sunscreen.
One of the more established events on the circuit. Morristown’s downtown location makes it walkable from surrounding hotels and restaurants, which supports the kind of full-day or overnight trip that the better harvest festivals merit. The emphasis here falls on New Jersey producers specifically, with multiple wineries pouring at once and educational programming running alongside the tastings. It’s the event to attend if the state’s winemaking quality is the primary interest.
A two-day harvest format in Ocean County that runs alongside cider, food vendors, and artisan market stalls. Manahawkin draws on the character of the nearby Pine Barrens region, and the timing in autumn puts foliage at its peak. The atmosphere sits between a community fair and a curated tasting event, broad enough to bring non-wine drinkers without losing anything for the enthusiasts. The pine scrub and sandy soil that define the Barrens are visible from the festival grounds, and the cider poured alongside the wine reflects the same regional character.
A smaller, more intimate gathering that leans into the late-season mood. November in Ocean County has its own atmosphere: cooler, quieter, less crowded than the summer Shore. Bayville captures that well. Attendance tends to be lower than at the October festivals, which leads to shorter lines and more time with the producers pouring.
The most ambitious entry on the list. Held at Bell Works in Holmdel, the NJ Wine Expo brings together the largest gathering of New Jersey wineries under one roof, giving visitors a full day of tasting, education, and direct access to winemakers and industry insiders. The venue, a massive, light-filled former Bell Labs complex, adds an architectural dimension that sets this apart from outdoor festival formats. This is the event for anyone who wants depth rather than breadth, where the conversation with producers is as much the point as the pouring.
The full calendar runs from late summer through New Jersey Wine Month in November, with the harvest season in September and October offering the densest concentration of events.
The state’s wine scene rewards repeat visits. The Shore circuit in September runs on a different register than the harvest festivals in October, and the NJ Wine Expo in November closes the calendar with something neither outdoor format offers. Coming back with a different itinerary each year is genuinely the point.
